There should be a test to become an elected official.

Among the questions asked of some 2,500 people who were randomly selected to take the test, including "self-identified elected officials," was one which asked respondents to "name two countries that were our enemies during World War II."

Sixty-nine percent of respondents correctly identified Germany and Japan. Among the incorrect answers were Britain, China, Russia, Canada, Mexico and Spain.

Pathetic.

The question that received the fewest correct responses, just 16 percent, tested respondents' basic understanding of economic principles, asking why "free markets typically secure more economic prosperity than government's centralized planning?"

Given the current economic crisis and never ending bailouts, the lack of knowledge among these fools regarding free markets explains a lot. They should be embarrassed.

Sounds like a plan to me

Mitt Romney's take on the American automakers bailout. I like the way he thinks. No more free lunches!

Update: This is exactly why the Big 3 don't deserve a single penny of taxpayer money. Bastards.

Did you sign up yet?

It's that time again...the 12 Days of Cookies at Food Network! If only it felt like Christmas around here. I think it was over 90 degrees today. Bleah! I hope it's colder in TX for Thanksgiving. I might have to drive to NoCal just to get in the spirit.

Whatcha think?

As I'm sure you've seen (and heard), I added a new feature. If you don't care to listen to my tunes, you can just hit the pause button or you can fast forward to other songs. I'm slowly adding new songs. I think I'm limited to 200, so my whole music library will not be represented. You're welcome. I was working on it at around 1am (it's addicting!), so there may be some choices I will regret later. :)

Feedback welcome! Also, I am open to song suggestions. I love new music. Sometimes I get stuck in a rut, just listening to the same stuff over and over. Radio is not a great way to be exposed to new songs/bands since all the stations around here are owned by the same company which means they play the same crap (yeah, you heard me Clear Channel).

Kanye West: "My arrogance knows no bounds."

OK, he didn't really say that. But he might as well. This guy continues to amaze me...and not in a good way.

Kanye West is to music what Michael Jordan was to basketball — at least that's what West thinks, in his humble estimation.

"I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice," he said in an interview on Wednesday. "It's me settling into that position of just really accepting that it's one thing to say you want to do it and it's another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan."

Happy Veterans Day!

Words cannot express my gratitude to the brave veterans who have served this country. I know THEY allow The United States of America to be great. It is our responsibility to ensure their service and sacrifice were not in vain.

God Bless the troops!

Quote from my morning tea bag

"All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered; the point is to discover them."

Sad.

I've read many of his books and enjoyed them thoroughly. They were always fun, fast-paced, well-researched and thought provoking. Before I started one of his novels, I would make sure I didn't have anything important to do for a while. I knew it would be near impossible to put the book down unfinished.

If you're interested in hearing an argument opposing the theory of man-made global warming, I recommend "State of Fear". It's fiction, but contains a large amount of real research. I found it very well done.

Prayers to his family and friends.

It's official.

Congrats, President-elect Obama.

At least someone had fun on election day!

Here's the video

Actually, it was taped the day before election day, but it aired today. The girl on the left is my fellow RN, Michelle Garcia. She has waaaaay too much energy, I tell ya. I hope the fame doesn't go to her head. Hee, hee...

Congrats, Michelle! I hope you didn't call in sick because you are so busted! :)

Ready or not, here it comes!

I'm glad the day is finally here, but I'm a tad bit nervous (OK, more than a tad bit). I know the country won't fall apart if Obama wins (right?), but he could cause some damage which I hope is reversible. Obama the Socialist and a Democrat controlled Congress? I need some Tums pronto. I already voted via absentee ballot, so I'll be at work tomorrow trying not to think about the outcome. Fat chance.

I heard Starbucks is giving away free coffee to voters tomorrow. Sounds good, but do they know that it's illegal to "buy" votes? I'm sure they'll get around it somehow. Let me know if you get a free cup of joe.
